Unique 45-Piece Set of Norstaal Inka Flatware in a Fabulous Diamond-Shaped Case
Unique 45-Piece Set of Norstaal Inka Flatware in a Fabulous Diamond-Shaped Case
I love the design of this unusual and clever storage or carrying case. It has a distinctively striking and iconic appearance, yet it is also somewhat playful. The hinged sides fold down, revealing the knives. The center tray, which holds the majority of the pieces, is removable. More pieces could potentially be stored underneath the center tray, if you ever decide to expand the set to include more pieces. (I have dozens more matching pieces available separately.)
There is some debate over who created this timeless mid-century modern flatware design. It was designed by either Tias Eckhoff or Erik Herlow in 1956. I cannot say who designed the case.
This set is from the original production by Norsk Stålpress in Bergen Norway, commonly known as Norstaal. Each piece has a pleasing brushed satin finish. They are marked either Inka or Inca.
(As a footnote, later pieces were marked Coreling and/or Hostess House, and have a glossy finish.)
This set contains six 7-piece place settings plus three serving pieces, including the following pieces:
6 Salad or Dessert Forks
6 Dinner Forks
6 Dinner Knives
6 Butter Knives
6 Soup or Place Spoons
6 Teaspoons
6 Small Demitasse Coffee or Tea Spoons
1 Serving Spoon
1 Serving Fork
1 Sugar Spoon
All flatware pieces are in excellent condition, showing minor signs of handling. The case has a few marks gained over the years. A beautiful set overall.
I have been collecting this design for many years. This is the only set I have ever seen that includes the wonderfully playful and distinctive original flatware storage case.
